Conditions of the Open Call



Who?

Visual artists and art curators up to 40 years of age including. No restrictions on media, but new media, video art, installation, public art practitioners are more preferable than painting and sculpture practitioners as we have no studio at our disposal. Studio, if required, can be provided for an additional monthly fee.
Student applications excluding PhD students from Art Academies and Universities will not be accepted.

Application requirements:

The following material must be submitted:

1. An updated CV (maximum length 2 pages A4).

2. A portfolio in a PDF format /no links to websites accepted/.

3. A motivation letter including a short description of an intended project (maximum length 1 page A4).

What do we offer?

Residency for a period of up to three months in second half of the year 2012 /July – December/ 2012 and for the year 2013.
Accommodation: a shared 3- bedroom apartment /a flat-share with one other resident/ with a necessary equipment to live (washing machine, oven, fridge, wi-fi internet connection; rooms have the basics: bed, desk including beddings).
COSTS: Total cost of a three month residency is 930,- EUR paid in 3 installments of 310,- EUR at the beginning of each month. A required deposit of 100,- EUR is returned to a resident upon his/her departure. Travel and living expenses should be covered by a resident himself/herself.
Financial support: Based on fundraised grants and other financial contributions the institution can provide a resident with the following: free accommodation, reimbursement of travelling costs. Personal initiative is expected and welcomed. Additionally, based on the agreement with particular cultural institutes, per diem and a small scholarship can be paid. Estimated amount of 500,- EUR /negotiable/.
Date of realization: The programme is scheduled for October, November and December 2012 and for the whole year 2013 when the following residency dates will be specified after the agreement of all concerned parties.
During the residency stay each resident will have a public presentation of his/her work on the premises of SPACE Gallery. We will provide him/her with a professional enrichment programme involving meetings with local art professional, workshops, professional exposure, exhibition opportunities etc. Realisation of a residency project is welcome though it is not obligatory. After a mutual agreement the solo show of a resident`s work can be negotiated and realized subsequently.
Selection process:

Artists will be selected by a board of professionals according to already existing work, their potential contribution to the residency stay in Bratislava as well as according to the benefit the artist may draw from the programme.
The submission process will close on 30 May 2012 and decisions will be announced on 14th June 2012.
